Active Ingredients in Thorne Research’s GI-Encaps

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice – Licorice root has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to optimize the production of mucus by the mucosal cells of the gastrointestinal tract. It is also used to promote the overall health of the GI tract. The licorice in GI-Encap has been deglycyrrihizinated (the glycrrhizin has been removed) to prevent the potential rise in blood pressure that many people experience while taking licorice root. So, with Thorne Research’s product, you can get all the benefits of licorice root without worrying about spikes in your blood pressure.

Musa paradisiacal (Dried, unripe plantain banana powder) – The dried unripe plantain powder helps to protect the mucosa within the upper digestive tract, which includes the stomach, esophagus and small intestine, from irritations and has been shown to have a soothing effect on the tissues of the small intestine. The boosting of mucosal resistance may come from the ability of the plantain to increase its own mucosal thickness in addition to the mucosal concentration of proeoglycans (which are necessary components of a healthy mucus membrane).

Ulmus fulva (Slippery elm bark) – Slippery elm has been used as an herbal medicine to treat inflamed, irritated or itchy skin as well as scrapes, cuts, scratches or minor burns.
