Inositol hexaphosphate, also known as IP-6, is a natural carbohydrate found in cereal grains, brown rice, corn, sesame, wheat bran, beans and other foods high in fiber. IP-6 possesses antioxidant and immune-enhancing properties that, when tested in-vitro, exhibit significant protective and growth-regulating effects on cells and tissues. Cardiovascular support has also been reported.

Helping to maintain normal, healthy cell growth and functioning in body tissues and organs is the prime reason that IP-6 is gaining so much popularity as a dietary supplement. Kirkman® recommends doing a literature search on IP-6 so as to familiarize yourself with all its potential benefits.

IP-6 aids in the metabolism of calcium and insulin and also supports hair growth and eye membrane development. IP-6 has shown promise in contributing to abnormal cell destruction in multiple types of tissues, which is undoubtedly due to its antioxidant properties. Far more research is needed in this area before any conclusive statements can be made.

IP-6 increases natural killer cell activity in vitro and also normalizes natural killer cell activity if it has been depressed due to oxidative stress within the cells. This further demonstrates IP-6’s powerful immune-supporting ability.

IP-6 has no known toxic effects in humans and actually contributes many beneficial health effects such as kidney function support and cardiovascular support, and it may reduce platelet aggregation. As the science further emerges, IP-6 will likely become even more popular as a supplement.

The IP-6 present in Kirkman® products is derived from calcium magnesium phytate. This is important because other forms of IP-6 may actually chelate calcium and magnesium out of the body, causing a potential decrease in these important nutrients. The calcium magnesium phytate form that Kirkman® uses prevents this from occurring.
