Leptin is a hormone produced in the body by fat cells. It acts as a signal telling the brain when you are hungry. When leptin is increased excessively, it impedes efforts at weight loss since the brain is constantly sending out a hunger message. Another function of leptin is to tell the body to burn extra fat. Leptin’s function in this capacity works best when leptin levels remain low and stable. If leptin is too high, this can create leptin resistance (similar to insulin resistance) where the cells stop “listening” to leptin. Just like with insulin resistance, eating too many refined carbohydrates worsens this condition. Refined carbohydrates include foods like bread, pasta, rice, cookies, cakes, sweets, etc. From the perspective of lifestyle changes, reducing intake of refined carbohydrates and eating good fats such as olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocadoes, will help to improve leptin levels, along with insulin and blood sugar levels.
About the ingredients:
Irvingia gabonensis is a fruit found in West Africa. Commonly known as “African mango,” different parts of the Irvingia plant are used in tropical Africa for medicinal purposes such as
• weight problems
• high cholesterol
• pain relief
Research continues everyday on the incredible benefits people achieve with f Irvingia. The research is positive as this fruit is very safe to take and preliminary studies suggest that this fruit can help with weight loss in obese people and reduce LDL cholesterol. At least one in vitro study points to the mechanism of action. Irvingia extract appears to interact with several critical metabolic pathways including leptin and adiponectin. In addition to cholesterol and weight, Irvingia may help improve blood glucose and waist circumference.
Acacia gum is also called gum arabic. This natural gum is derived from the hardened sap of the Acacia tree, native to Africa, Arabia, and West Asia. Acacia gum has many diverse applications, including in the textile, ink,
food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Gum arabic is used to
• increase satiety
• decrease calorie consumption in people who are trying to lose weight
Acacia gum can also help blunt blood glucose elevations, weight gain, and fasting insulin levels in people eating a high fat diet.
