Melatonin, the primary hormone of the pineal gland, acts as a powerful "chronobiotic," helping to maintain normal circadian rhythms.* In individuals having difficulty sleeping or with altered circadian rhythms, such as occur in jet lag and night shift work, supplementation with melatonin can help provide the resynchronization of those cycles, at amounts ranging from 0.3-8.0 mg.* Synthesis of melatonin from the amino acid tryptophan can be decreased by the aging process. Melatonin is a potent antioxidant.* Adequate melatonin levels have been reported to be a positive factor cardiovascular, neuroendocrine, and bone health.*


Melatonin administration exerts a sedative-like effect in amounts of 0.3-5.0 mg.* When taken before onset of one's own melatonin secretion, even low amounts of melatonin can promote sleep.* Melatonin is thought to potentiate the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) via direct interaction with GABA receptors, thus resulting in relaxation.* Research indicates melatonin exerts sleep-promoting action by decreasing the time to fall asleep, improving the ability to stay asleep, and enhancing the depth of sleep.* Thorne's Melaton-3 supplies 3 mg of melatonin in each capsule. This potency is ideal for those individuals who may require a moderate amount of melatonin.*

More than just a Sleep Aid

I have used Thorne products for more than 5 years now, prescribed by an alternative/traditional MD. Melaton-3 by Thorne Research is one of a regimen for my son with high-functioning autism spectrum, or Aspergers. It is part of a group of sleep aides for him, as in teen years, quieting down his brain for sleep has been a tough thing for him...he is a night owl, which won't work with being in the world.

It is also an anti-oxidant and it affects his functioning level in a very positive way, ie., communication, appropriate expression and overall mood.
Pros:
Knowing that I can trust Melaton-3 by Thorne Research because I have a doctor that really knows who the best/purest companies are.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Maybe it's the placebo effect, but I really don't care. I've been sleeping more soundly and restfully since taking one Melaton-3 capsule before bed.
