About Collagen

Collagen is the main structural protein found in the body. It accounts for 70% of the skin and is the component that is responsible for giving skin its strength and elasticity. Collagen also makes up 30% of bones, giving them necessary flexibility, so they don’t fracture on impact. In the bones, collagen is also responsible for binding calcium and other minerals. It is the main component of cartilage, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Unfortunately, collagen production begins to decline early in life. By the time we reach 40 years old, we’re losing about one percent each year. Women are affected by this more than men, with a seven percent loss of skin thickness every ten years. The loss of collagen only becomes greater after menopause. The loss of collagen is often associated with the normal signs of aging: decreased bone density, greater fracture risk, brittle nails and thinning hair.

Orthosilicic Acid’s Relation to Collagen

Orthosilicic acid has been studied for years as a supplement to increase collagen production. Now, the years of research have brought us choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid, as found in RegeneMax. The choline actually transports the orthosilicic acid to cells, allowing it to generate collagen and promote keratin and elastin formation. Along with collagen, keratin and elastin both help increase skin elasticity and hair strength.

The Research

In one double-blind, randomized and placebo-controlled study, 50 women with sun damaged skin took two ch-OSA® capsules daily for 20 weeks. At the end of the study, these women had significantly improved elasticity in their skin and a 30% greater reduction in the depth of fine wrinkles than those on the placebo pill. The women taking the ch-OSA® capsules also ended up with stronger nails.

Another study (also double-blind, randomized and placebo-controlled) 48 women with fine hair improved their hair’s thickness after taking the ch-OSA® capsules for nine months.

In a 12-month clinical trial, women who were already supplementing with 1000 milligrams of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D improved their bone mineral density by 2% after adding ch-OSA® to their daily supplementation regimen. This improvement was noted as an actual increase in bone mass, not simply a decrease in bone loss, which is a significant finding. Various animal studies have also been done on ch-OSA® that support the findings of the above-mentioned studies.
