Barley Grass (Hordeum vulgare) – A cereal grass that is dense in nutrients which include: chlorophyll, antioxidants, amino ac- ids, vitamins, and minerals. Traditional practitioners have used Barley Grass to assist with allergies, anemia, arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue, skin injuries and yeast infection. Research has also demonstrated that Barley Grass may also have a reparative effect on DNA damaged by carcinogens and radiation. Chlorella (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) – A genus of unicellular green algae that is known for its high nutritional value. Not only rich in chlorophyll, Chlorella is 50% protein, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate and many other minerals and vitamins. These nutrients include B vitamins, carotenoids, vitamin C, magnesium, lutein and other phytocomplexes. Spirulina (Spirulina platensis) – One form of blue-green algae that was named because of the spiral shape of each individual spirulina cell. It is known for its high density of nutrition contain- ing chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Spirulina has been found to have 10 times more beta carotene than car- rots; to be a rich source of iron, magnesium and trace minerals; and to have high concentrations of gamma linoleic acid which assists with infammation. Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) – A species of seaweed consid- ered by herbalists to be a nourishing and strengthening food medicine. Historically, its primary role was to quicken recovery after a debilitating illness and it is also a signifcant source of iodine, which is critical for thyroid function. Amla Berry (Emblica offcinalis) – Amla is native to India and has been prized by Ayurvedic healers as a rich source of antioxidants and because it contains signifcant amounts of vitamin C. It is considered an adaptogen, with other traditional uses including infammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders, connective tis- sue disorders, to improve vision and prevent damage to the body caused by toxins. Oat Straw (Avena sativa) – Considered by many Eclectic physi- cians to be one of the best remedies to strengthen and calm the whole nervous system while under stress. It has also been used for both physical and nervous fatigue associated with depres- sion, insomnia, and exhaustion. Fo Ti (Polygonum multiforum) – Claimed by the Chinese to be the herb for longevity and wellness. Traditionally it has been used as a cardiovascular strengthener, to infuence the endo- crine glands and as a tonic to help tone the liver and kidneys. Current research has shown Fo Ti to support and protect the nervous system. Nutritional Yeast – Considered to be a rich source of several nutrients including protein, B vitamins, beta glucans and trace minerals, especially chromium and selenium.
