Basic Prenatal by Thorne was designed to be a complete vitamin and mineral supplement for pregnant and lactating women. This multi-vitamin and mineral supplement contains the purest and highest quality ingredients available on the market in their most well-absorbed and highly bioavailable forms.

One of the most crucial vitamins for a healthy pregnancy is folate. Insufficient intake of folic acid during pregnancy may negatively affect fetal development. Fortunately‚ each vegetarian capsule of Basic Prenatal provides the active forms of folate (5-MTHF) and vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamine) in a readily-absorbable dose. Iron is also important for pregnant women‚ but it can sometimes cause constipation; therefore‚ this supplement contains iron in the form of iron bisglycinate‚ which is easier on the stomach while delivering a woman's pregnancy-specific needs.

    Pregnancy and Nutrition

During pregnancy‚ a woman needs more calories and nutrients to support both herself and a growing baby. Even after pregnancy‚ her nutritional and caloric requirements remain elevated if she breastfeeds. However‚ some women have trouble getting the appropriate amount of calories and nutrition from food‚ especially during their first trimester of pregnancy when many suffer from morning sickness. The good news is that nutrients like vitamin B6‚ vitamin C‚ and vitamin K may help alleviate those uncomfortable symptoms.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommend that all women of childbearing age supplement with folic acid. This is because many pregnancies are not discovered until well into the first trimester‚ and this time is crucial for neural development of the fetus. Even though folate is essential‚ it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Basic Prenatal provides a safe dosage of 1 mg to ensure proper supplementation.

    The Thorne Difference

As you may expect from Thorne‚ you will not find any of the additives or coatings that you might find in mainstream prenatal vitamin and mineral supplements. Basic Prenatal is formulated with only the purest and most bioavailable nutrients.

Many women have trouble digesting the high-potency prenatal vitamin and mineral supplements that are often needed during pregnancy‚ especially during the nausea that often occurs in the first trimester. It is for this reason that Thorne Research does not include high volumes of the vitamins and minerals that are more likely to be harsh on the stomach. Basic Prenatal provides the most bioavailable forms of vitamins B6‚ B2‚ B12‚ and L-5 MTHF (active folate) —this means that you’ll get more benefit out of a smaller dose than you would with many other multivitamin and mineral supplements.

Thorne strives to provide pure‚ high-quality supplements to people looking to enhance their health and well-being. Its products are commonly used in prestigious research studies‚ and are recommended by many doctors and health care practitioners. The company always goes the extra mile to ensure that Thorne Research dietary supplements are safe and effective for immune-compromised‚ allergic‚ and chemically sensitive patients.

Once again Thorne steps up with a natural prenatal vitamin that works very well and had my doctor recommended for my MTHFR disorder. I still use Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research even after my pregnancy because I've seen my nails and hair grow faster and stronger and also I know it helps make my breast milk more healthy.

    Pros

Noticed major growth and strength in my hair and nails.

    Cons

I would recommend this item to a friend.

I realized that Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research may be too much iron for me. It's at the top of the daily limit for pregnant women so I am not going to take it.

I chose Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research specifically because of it's use of methylated folate. I first picked it up from our local wellness center, but found it was slightly cheaper to order through PureFormulas, so that's what I did when I needed to reorder. I was amazed at how quickly the order arrived, which was great because then I didn't miss any doses.

    Pros

Methylated Folate; Very High Quality; No Allergens.

    Cons

It doesn't specify whether or not you are supposed to take the 3 daily capsules all at once or divided. I started with 3 at once, but decided to switch to 1 with each meal to see if it would help with nausea. (I'm not sure if it did or not, because it's so hard to tell when morning sickness comes and goes).
I would recommend this item to a friend.

I've been using Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research for over two years now with great results. Used it for a year prior to getting pregnant, and still using it while nursing. Recommended to me by my natural path. I feel great and have lots of energy.

    Pros

    No taste, great ingredients.

    Cons

    Nothing.

I've done a very thorough research and went through and compared ingredients in every prenatal vitamins I could find on PureFormulas and a few other sites. At this price range Basic Prenatal by Thone Research is by far the best one in terms of the contents of each vitamin. Yes, you need to remember to take it 3 times a day. For me the only drawback is that it causes bloating unfortunately. I'm still in search for a comparable alternative multi without afformentioned side effect

    Pros

It has everything you would want in prenatal vitamins.

    Cons

    Causes bloating.
I would recommend this item to a friend.

Basic Prenartal by Thorne Research contains methylfolate which is essentially active and not synthetic folic acid, and methylcobalamin which is active vitamin b12. This is necessary for people with the MTHFR mutation because the cannot process synthetic vitamin B. Thorne ia a reputable company with quality products sold by naturopaths.

    Pros

    Reputable brand.

    Cons

Wish there was a larger quantity available and that bottle was bisphenal-A free.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
