InterFase Plus and Biofilms

Biofilm is made up of microorganisms that are encased within a matrix of exopolysaccharides and exoproteins. This matrix adheres to other surfaces, resisting dislodgement. The microorganisms encased in these biofilms are highly resistant to antibiotics and other antimicrobials. They are also resistant to the bacteriocins that are produced by probiotics. InterFase was specifically designed to disrupt the biofilm matrix that can embed gastrointestinal pathogens.

The specific enzymes chosen for InterFase and InterFase Plus were selected because they can rupture the extracellular polymers that are often found in biofilm. These enzymes can also degrade the cell walls of bacteria and yeasts. Klaire Labs tested these enzymes in vitro for their antibiofilm activity and found that they were able to cause meaningful degradation of biofilm communities that consisted of pathogenic bacteria and yeast.

Calcium, magnesium and iron are essential for biofilm creation. The EDTA included in InterFase Plus binds the metals necessary for biofilm formation.

How to Take InterFase Plus

InterFase and InterFase Plus are both intended to be used alongside other efforts to support healthy microflora and gastrointestinal function. In combination with these other efforts, it is recommended that you take either of the InterFase products along with a broad, high-potency, multispecies probiotic as well as a prebiotic formula. This will encourage the production and growth of healthy intestinal microbial biofilm communities – while InterFase is working to eliminate the pathogenic ones. If necessary and directed by your health care practitioner, InterFase and InterFase plus can also be taken with antimicrobial agents, but take these capsules away from mealtimes to maximize the effects.

Storage and Handling of InterFase Plus

Just like with probiotics, it is essential for enzymes to arrive alive. Klaire Labs designed its InterFase products to maintain full potency for several weeks, as long as they are kept at room temperature. If you refrigerate the product, you may slightly extend its shelf life. Cold packs are included in each shipment to ensure that the temperature doesn’t drop drastically during shipment. We ship products across the country in various climates throughout the year and must account for the extreme heat a travelling package must sometimes endure. However, in most cases, the cold packs are no longer cold when the package arrives. This is not a problem. Klaire has tested the potency of each product before and after normal shipping periods (even after the cold packs have warmed) and can assure that the product arrives with at least as many enzymes as are labeled on the package.
